Copenhagen, Denmark

On a bathroom wall, someone wrote "the only difference between a disaster and an adventure is your attitude". It's so easy to get discouraged when things don't happen as planned or expected, but that saying is so true. You can't control what happens in life but you can control your attitude.

We had our first kinda disaster/adventure moment in Copenhagen. After a long (8 hour) bus ride, we arrived around midnight and needed to take the metro from there. We were tired, hungry, and eager to get to our air bnb (yea, couchsurfing hasn't been as easy in Europe as it was in that States). Derik went to the machine to purchase metro tickets and his card didn't work. Odd, we thought, and tried again. After about 15 minutes of trying, still no luck. Thankfully, the guy behind us helped us out and bought our tickets. I am not really sure what we would have done if he hadn't helped us. We can only use our phones if we are connected to wifi (didn't purchase an international plan), so finding an ATM, an Uber, etc wasn't an option in that moment. It all worked out, though.

Our air bnb host told us "There are a lot of museums and tourist attractions, but just walk the streets and get lost". So we did. Copenhagen is seriously so beautiful! It has a mix of the old and new that blended together so well. It was easy for us to just lose time without actually doing anything specific.

We use couchsurfing on our travels not just to find a place to stay but also to meet up with other travelers and locals along the way. We met up with an aspiring tour guide who gave us a practice tour around the city, a solo traveler from Brazil, and a local. It is really fun for us to hear other people's travel stories. This is a great tool for someone who isn't comfortable hosting or being a guest yet.
